This handset was notable for having a catastrophic design flaw. If a user dropped it, a resistor would become detached from the circuit board and it would cause the phone to stop working. It has been reported by Sony Ericsson employees working on the phone at the time that there was a 60 percent return rate due to failures. Despite this, it apparently "sold like crazy because it was so compact".
