The Z555 was a fashion-oriented clamshell phone. It marked a clear move by Sony Ericsson into the fashion segment and its diamond pattern had similarities to Nokia’s Prism devices. It came in two colours: dusted rose and diamond black.
At the time, the commitment to fashion within Sony Ericsson also extended to job titles, with the “Head of Style Marketing” commenting in the press release announcing the Z555.
When it was launched, Sony Ericsson also revealed that it was going to offer a “Design Collection” of four leather bags offering “creative and stylish carrying solutions that fit with your phone and your style”.
When it announced the Z555, Sony Ericsson joined other leading manufacturers who were all pursuing fashion elements in their device portfolios. Examples included Nokia (L’Amour Collection), Samsung (Armani Phone / LaFleur range), Motorola (Dolce & Gabanna RAZR), LG (Prada Phone) and the Alcatel Mobile Phones (Mandarina Duck).
The Z555 had a 1.9-inch (176 x 220 pixels) 262k TFT colour main display and an OLED monochrome (128 x 36 pixels) external display. It also featured a 1.3-megapixel camera with 4x digital zoom. Additionally, it had a media player, stereo Bluetooth with A2DP, FM radio and a Memory Stick Micro (M2) card slot.
