The SPL was a mid-range smartphone produced by i-mate. The company described the SPL as “a great-looking device that would attract professionals that wanted a stylish device plus the benefits of Microsoft’s Windows Mobile platform.”
It was designed for consumer and business use and had a 65k 2.2-inch colour LCD screen, MiniSD memory card expansion slot, integrated antenna and Bluetooth support.
When it was launched, it was regarded as being very similar to the
Motorola SLVR, but rather than being a feature phone, the SPL was a smartphone.
Notable shortcomings of the device were the camera, which had no auto-focus option, and its lack of Wi-Fi and 3G data support.
The phone was manufactured for i-mate by the original design manufacturer TechFaith.
