Features

At launch, the T66 was the smaller mobile phone that had ever been made by Ericsson. The company described it as "roughly the same length and width as a credit card". It also featured an integrated antenna.  At this size, it was the smaller tri-band (GSM900/1800/1900) phone on the market at the time, surpassing the Nokia 8210. The phone was available in two colours: Purple Passion and Silver Supreme (as owned by the Mobile Phone Museum). The T66 featured three capabilities Ericsson had been pioneering at the time, the Enhanced Messaging Service (EMS), a chat function, and support for the Wireless Application Protocol (WAP). It also had a built-in calendar. EMS allowed users to send and receive pictures, sound effects and ringtones using the SMS text message capability. The mobile chat capability allowed "point-to-point messaging" between two phones that supported the mobile chat function. This was quite revolutionary at the time, and was compared to "Internet messaging" services like AOL Messenger. Following the creation of the Sony Ericsson joint-venture, the T66 was renamed as the Sony Ericsson T600.
