The TM506 was US carrier T-Mobile's first 3G handset and was specifically designed for its network supporting 1700MHz and 2100MHz spectrum for 3G and HSDPA. It also had tri-band support (850/1800/1900MHz) for GSM calls. The phone was only available in the US market. When it was launched, Najmi Jarwala, who was president of Sony Ericsson North America at the time declared that the TM506 “not only signified Sony Ericsson's expanding U.S. portfolio of handsets, but more importantly, that Sony Ericsson had forged a strong and promising relationship with T-Mobile”. It was a handset that had a great reputation within Sony Ericsson, being commended for its high quality which resulted in very few returns. Having originally been launched in Emerald and Amber variants, a third colour, Scarlet, was added to the portfolio in January 2009. The Mobile Phone Museum has Emerald and Scarlet variants in its collection.
