The Z558 was Sony Ericsson’s first clamshell phone with a touch screen and was the company’s first non-Symbian phone to have a touch screen and stylus. It was designed primarily for Chinese character input. In addition, it also had text (handwriting) recognition for English and Thai. Sony Ericsson marketed the device as offering “one-touch” text messaging. It was branded as the Z558c for the Chinese mainland and Z558i for other markets where it was available.
