The Sony Ericsson J230 was described as combining “design quality, ease of use and value.” It was focused on customers who were primarily interested in making calls and sending text messages. At the time it hoped that it would allow people that aspired to the Sony Ericsson brand to be able to afford to own one of its phones.
The J230 was a slightly more capable version of the J220 which was announced at the same time. It had a built-in stereo FM radio that users could listen to on the wired stereo headset. There was also a speaker integrated into the back of the phone and support for speakerphone functionality.
Colours available at launch were cosmo white, cherry red and deep blue and users could also personalise the phone with Sony Ericsson’s Style-Up covers.
