Features

The Alcatel One Touch V770 (OT-V770) was unveiled at the Mobile World Congress trade show in February 2008. It grabbed people’s attention with its 262k colour display, slim 10mm design, and a laser-cut aluminium keypad which echoed the design approach on Motorola’s Razr V3 and other Motorola devices. The phone was available in white or black and featured an MP3 player, an expandable microSD slot with a 2GB card included, and a 1.3-megapixel camera. The device was also one of Alcatel’s first tri-band phones. A notable feature of the V770 was the ability to plug it into a PC and use the phone’s camera as a webcam. However, the device is most famous for a Playboy variant which was subsequently unveiled by US distributor Cellatel in the US at the CTIA trade show in March 2008 showcased on a booth full of Playboy girls. Cellatel had signed a deal with retailer Sears to distribute the device. The phone featured no Alcatel-branded, instead featuring the Playboy logo on the rear face of the device. It had a dedicated “Playboy button” and was also pre-loaded with the Playboy logo which appeared when booting up the phone and (non-pornographic) content such as Playboy wallpapers. It was offered in pink, silver and gold and cost $300 at launch, a considerable premium on the vanilla V770 which cost less than £50 ($65).
