The Datawind PocketSurfer 2 was an innovative connected PDA which was powered by Microsoft Windows CE 5.0. It offered fast browsing over 2G GSM GPRS by connecting directly to Datawind's servers in Canada which delivered highly compressed images of the web pages a user was trying to access. In essence, the device acted as a remote desktop client to Datawind's web servers.
The device was able to display multiple webpage components including ActiveX, Flash, PDF, Java, JavaScript, SSL security and HTML elements such as frames.
Although the device was well-liked in reviews, the backlit 640 x 420 display five-inch screen was widely criticised for being washed out and difficult to read.
At launch, the device cost $300.
Internet browser devices were popular at the time and Nokia had been experimenting with several different Internet Tablet products including the
Nokia N810 which was also launched in 2007.
