The W32SA was made by Sanyo Electric for the Au by KDDI network in Japan. It supported the Japanese network’s CDMA 1X WIN network.
It was the first CDMA 1X WIN phone to support analogue terrestrial TV using a retractable antenna. This antenna also enabled the FM radio built into the phone.
The phone used Qualcomm’s BREW 3.1 platform and included a 1.3-megapixel CCD camera.
The phone proved controversial as approximately half a million units had to be recalled due to a software fault which meant it would not charge the battery correctly.
